Shimizu Port stretches for many kilometers along the waterfront. Access is provided from both JR Shimizu Station (a short walk from Kashi-no-Ichi Market) and the Shizuoka Railway Shin-Shimizu Station (a 15 minute walk from S-Pulse Dream Plaza). There are a number of bus lines that travel along the main road parallel to the waterfront.

2022 situation - During most of the climbing season, 2-4 buses per day run from Shin-Matsuda Station (80 minutes, 780 yen from Shinjuku by Odakyu Railways) to the Subashiri 5th Station. The one way trip takes about 90 minutes and costs 2100 yen. A round trip ticket is available for 3400 yen.
The windy, toll-free road to the Subashiri 5th Station is closed to private vehicles during the peak of the climbing season (July 14 to August 27, September 1-3 and September 8-10, 2023) and during winter, typically from late November to late April. During the rest of the year, the 5th station can be reached by car.
Luggage storage space, a massage service and a garden are all on offer at Gyokutei Ryokan. For dinner, traditional kaiseki (multi-course) meals are served in guest rooms. Hakone Open-air Museum is 50-minute train ride away on the Hakone Tozan Line, while Hakone Gora Park is 55-minute train ride from the property.

On March 16, 2024, the new service started along the recently extended Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train line beyond Kanazawa and into Fukui Prefecture. Before the extension, the Hokuriku Shinkansen went as far as Kanazawa, and the city has enjoyed an increase in tourist numbers since the opening of the bullet train station in 2015.
