Kinkakuji Temple. I highly recommend anyone visiting Kyoto to visit this location as the temple and the gardens are absolutely gorgeous.

There are more hotels/ryokans around the Furano station, which is also served by highway bus from Sapporo direct in 2 hours. In comparison, there are more pensions in Biei though widely spread out in the undulating plains.
