You can also take the Ltd. Express trains such as Haruka, Thunderbird, and Kuroshio. These trains will be much less crowded.

You can't use the pass for Shinkansen from Shin Osaka to Kyoto, as that sector is run by a different company, JR Central. You can use your pass on commuter train, or limited express train like Haruka run by JR West. 7.
