Updated: November 13, 2023. 荒川是一条纵贯埼玉县而流往东京湾的河，全长173公里，东京都的自来水约八成是来自荒川及利根川。 荒川正如其名（日文意思为狂暴之河），自古经常泛滥，因此从江户时代起，人们便开始尝试治水。 1910年（明治43年）遭遇大洪水后，1911年开始，政府花费24年时间建设人工排水路，即荒川排水渠。 当时也曾考虑对荒川下游区域的隅田川实施改造，但在当年时代背景下，船舶是重要的交通及货物运输工具，因此采用了效果更佳的方案，即建设荒川排水渠。 东京是与水路一同发展至今的城市，这条排水渠完工之后，便一直守护着荒川下游区域的人们与财产。 荒川排水渠即将于2024年迎来100周年，这里对于游客来说也是富有魅力的景点。
