We'll be travelling from Sapporo to Tokyo on May 4th and given how long the trip is we wanted to stop in Tohoku on our way back. We are considering Sendai for the Daikannon and Matsushima Bay. If we take the first Shinkansen from Sapporo we'll be in Sendai at around 1:30PM.

There are more hotels/ryokans around the Furano station, which is also served by highway bus from Sapporo direct in 2 hours. In comparison, there are more pensions in Biei though widely spread out in the undulating plains.
