1. Re: Hong Kong Departure Tax Refund? 5 years ago. No. If you enter by other methods than using the ferry to HKIA, you are considered (and you actually are) departing from Hong Kong. The departure tax refund is only given to those who "depart" from Macau or elsewhere directly via SkyPier.

I think you may be confusing the HK$120. departure tax which is normally included in the price of the airline ticket with the HK$33 security tax, which is relatively new. Go to the following link and look at the info. at the bottom under the heading "Air Passenger Departure Tax & Surcharges:
