How do the star ratings compare to Western or brand name resorts? I’ve used the star-ratings supplied by the hotel to Booking.com. Aside from ace-across-the-board five-star Samui resorts, double check what’s included in terms of 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-star services and amenities. In smaller resorts, you’re better off comparing location/age/size as well as photos, as star ratings tend to have less standardisation than in western tourist spots.
