This is the official subreddit for Proton VPN, an open-source, publicly audited, unlimited, and free VPN… I'd have thought limiting free users to the fastest Dutch, US and Japanese servers, rather than being able to pick from all 150+, would have been a better compromise, but I understand their reasoning.
2022年5月25日 · With Manjaro, I was getting a lot of weird errors trying to update ProtonVPN. Nothing could be updated or uninstalled in pamac because everything was a dependency of everything else. Finally, I had to manually uninstall protonvpn, protonvpn-gui, and protonvpn-cli with yay in the terminal and then manually reinstall protonvpn.
ProtonVPN clients needs to be tightly integrated with the system. Utilities like snap and flatpak have a strong level of isolation (sandboxes) that makes it harder (if not impossible) to access the required system interfaces, and are therefore not supported.

For instance: ProtonVPN is not very easy to use with WireGuard on Linux, but Windows is apparently well supported. I only use that as an example, and you can get round it. It also depends on what sites you habitually want to connect to, for instance DAZN in the UK refuses all ProtonVPN connections - I don't know if they refuse Mullvad etc...

I'm using protonVPN free subscription and it seems to good to be true. The speed is decent and there's major servers in the US and Europe. There doesn't appear to be a data limit, no ads, and its not a trial, its free unlimited. Yeah, only one device at a time, but
I use ProtonVPN because of it's strong record with privacy, being based on Switzerland, and the fact it comes with the whole Proton package if you get Unlimited or Family. I would never use a VPN provider based in a 14 eyes country.
