   阿拉比卡與羅布斯塔是全球栽種的兩大咖啡豆品種。 羅布斯塔對熱度的敏感性相對較低（但更容易受到乾旱的影響），而溫度在阿拉比卡咖啡豆的生長與成熟過程中有著重要的作用。 阿拉比卡植物在 18-21°C 的溫度範圍內會生長良好，但持續暴露在 30°C 以上的溫度下則會受到損害，從而導致產量減少與品質降低。 各主要咖啡產區的氣溫一直在不斷上升。 例如，巴西作為阿拉比卡的最大生產國，其年平均溫度在 1971 年至 2021 年期間上升了 1.16°C 。 在《PLOS Climate》雜誌上最近發表的一項研究顯示，自 1980 年以來，影響咖啡產量的次優環境因素有所增加。 過去十年的情況尤其嚴重，在咖啡產量最低的六個年份中，有五個出現在 2010 年以後。
