All HKPF officers are employed as civil servants and therefore required to pledge allegiance to the Hong Kong Basic Law . The HKPF consists of approximately 34,000 officers, including the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force, civil servants, and its Marine Region (3,000 officers and 143 vessels as of 2009).
香港警務處 （英語： Hong Kong Police ，縮寫 ： HKPF ）成立於1844年5月1日，是 香港 最早的現代 警察機關 之一，現隸屬 香港特別行政區政府 保安局 ，為編制最龐大 特區政府部門 （2014年佔20.2%）、 紀律部隊 [5] 。 2013年 聯合國毒品和犯罪辦公室 統計香港平均每100萬人有4,500名警察， 警民比例 居全球第5名，次于 俄羅斯 、 土耳其 、 意大利 、 葡萄牙 [6] 。 雖然香港特別行政區有 中國人民解放軍駐香港部隊 駐守，但解放軍並不能隨意離開駐地軍營。 其他不少國家、地區部份由軍隊擔當的職能，在香港均由警方負責，如防守海岸、 邊界巡邏 、 反恐行動 等。
