此藥可防止因刺激腦部化學受體引發區 (chemoreceptor trigger zone) 引起的嘔吐反射，可預防因放射性治療及化學療法引起的噁心和嘔吐；但對舟車暈浪，則沒有效用。 服用藥物需知. 止暈、止嘔藥只能暫時紓緩患者暈眩、嘔吐等徵狀。 故此，應找出病因，對症下藥，才是治本之法。 輕微的腸胃炎未必需要服食止嘔藥，這樣會因症狀被藥物 抑制而妨礙醫生的診斷。 如症狀持續，應徵詢醫生意見。 止暈、止嘔藥會有昏睡副作用，故在服藥期間，不可從事危險性高的活動，應避免駕駛車輛或操作機器。 此類藥物大都有中樞神經抑制作用，故不可與酒精同服。 孕婦在服藥前應該先徵詢醫生意見。 頭部受傷後有嘔吐，並多次反覆發作，是危險先兆，應即往急症室檢查。 生活適應. 嘔吐或覺得暈眩的病人，應臥床休息。
