Po Lin Monastery is a Buddhist monastery, located on Ngong Ping Plateau, on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. The monastery was founded in 1906 by three monks visiting from Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland and was initially known simply as "The Big Hut" ( 大茅蓬 Tai Mao Pung ).

寶蓮禪寺 （英語： Po Lin Monastery ），或稱 寶蓮寺 ，為 香港 一座 佛教 寺廟，亦為香港旅遊景點之一，位於 新界 大嶼山 昂坪 ，介乎 彌勒山 與 鳳凰山 之間。 寺廟前身為 大茅蓬 ，由 中國 江蘇 鎮江 金山寺 的 頓修 、 大悅 和 悅明 三位 禅師 建於1906年（即 清 光緒 三十二年）。 直到1924年，第一代 住持 紀修和尚 正式命名爲寶蓮禪寺。 而刻有「永破無明是最安樂」的寶蓮寺第二代住持 筏可 法師的榮壽紀念碗子被香港本地歷史學者鄧家宙所收藏 [1] 。 建築特色. 天壇大佛 屬全球最大的 青銅 坐佛，位於寺旁，巍峨坐於 木魚峰 上，由寶蓮禅寺於1970年籌建。 佛像約重250公噸，高34米，坐於三層祭壇上，以青銅鑄造，佛面塗金4斤餘。

It is one of Hong Kong's most popular Buddhist temples. The Ngong Ping Plateau is situated at an altitude of about 520 meters (1,706 feet).
