Asakusa would be a fun place to get a glimpse of "traditional Japan ," however be prepared for wall to wall crowds from the evening of Dec. 31 to Jan. 3. Restaurants will be open around the train station, but will probably have long lines.

You need 1 full day (can be a day trip, can be an overnight) to see Kawaguchiko. If you want to go to Hakone, too, ideally, allow 3 days, 2 nights though you can try to squeeze both into 2 days.
