Many Japanese will have 3 days off from the 12th to 14th October. You would be better to pay attention it when you make your itinerary.

For your daughter, Ball&Chain bags are cute. I found mine at Shibuya Scramble mall, on the floor with handbags--the 5th floor, I think. I once found a location list, but can't find it now.

There are a number of other private lodges/reserves that offer very reasonably priced tours of their property in the area. With your own transportation, you'll need to contact each place individually to reserve a day/time & guide.
