Rather than etiquette, normal shoes (sneakers) are more convenient for shinto shrines, temples, and castles (especially original castles). They have more or less gravel road or paths unlike churches in Europe.

We are both fairly well traveled however I feel very overwhelmed with trying to plan this itinerary! Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We fly into Narita at 30 on day one.
